그리고 마녀는 숲으로 갔다
bySanho(Story & Art)
This is a graphic novel that tells the story of witches living in a world facing a crisis due to environmental pollution and climate change. We have spent a summer where “many things crumbled silently.” Things dried up and crumbled in the scorching heat, and melted, decayed, and swept away by merciless torrential rains. Such brutal summers are getting longer with each passing year. This book is for those who endure this never-ending season with a throbbing heart that refuses to heal, lamenting the destruction and disappearance of their loved ones. Although the helplessness and guilt of feeling like there is nothing to be done amidst this massive flow of destruction sicken the mind, this book says: since there are more things that have survived than those that have lived, we must care for one another. This is our story, and it is also the story of the witches living in Mansinnaru. In a world where nature has ailing, the grandeur of calming waves with a glance and building forests with a single gesture has become a glory of the past. Now, they are confined to a witches' sanctuary called Mansinnaru. I am slowly dying, suffering from an incurable disease that causes parts of my body to burn black like a leaf afflicted by blight. Yet, I continue to live on, planting in the field a potato I carelessly picked up at the supermarket that had sprouted, declaring it fate, and making and sharing jam-making cakes made from figs that survived heavy rains. Just like us, who strive to maintain our daily lives and care for those around us, even in moments of helplessness.
